Imagine being caught in a time warp.
That’s exactly what has happened to Michelle Philpots.
The 47-year-old Brit made headlines last week when she told a “Today†show reporter she was perpetually trapped in 1994. After two different motor-vehicle accidents, Philpots developed anterograde amnesia, which allows the brain to remember past events but makes it difficult to recall things that happened after the trauma.
This seems like a terrible affliction, and my heart goes out to Philpots. I was happy to hear she has the support of a loving husband.
But it really got me thinking. What would it be like to live like this? What year would I want to live in forever?
It certainly wouldn’t be 1978, my Year of Incipient Acne, or 1983, The Year of College-Induced Comfort Eating.
If I had to pick a year in which to live out the rest of my life, it would have to be 1984. I was a college sophomore, enjoying the best year of my life. I was blissfully unaware of rising unemployment figures, terrorists on American soil or Kim Kardashian.
